Thank you Angela for joining us today.
Q) How has Covid-19 affected your business?
Almost over-night, our entire book of event business was gone or a HUGE question mark. As a result, I had to furlough my team, pivot our services, and go back to grass roots – a company of one.
Q) What items are planners now asking for? How is your solution to what is being ask for different than other companies?
It is clear clients are looking more for a strategic partner than ever before. An order taker is a dime a dozen. They need creative solutions and strategic redirects for these challenging, uncharted times.
As challenging of times as these are – birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and huge milestone moments still deserve their due. Our first solution was to offer ways to celebrate these moments. Ways to surprise and delight and not let quarantine win. For instance we custom built a 8 X 6 foot coloring wall that was set outside for people to drive by and leave notes and color pictures to a birthday girl. We used 744+ yards of yarn for a 6 year old to wake up on her birthday to a “laser” maze. We constructed a 20 foot runway in a front yard so kids could walk their walk and take a picture with a life size cardboard cutout with the birthday girl.
We also took a service we only offered to our clients – custom, laser-made goods, and created a collection of products and opened an online shop – www.shopeamade.com. It has been open since June 1st and it has really taken off and filled the creative void live-events had left behind. Since many of our Corporate clients have moved virtual – our custom curated gifts have offered the perfect solution to send “swag” boxes as well as client and employee appreciation tokens.
These have no doubt been the most challenging times of my life – but the innovation we have brought forth is some of the best of my career.
Q) What is the biggest challenge for you and your company post – Covid 19?
Predicting the future and making the right next move. Both in our business and the services we offer and for our clients. Clients are looking to us for answers and we are in uncharted territory.
Q) How do you see the future of your company 6,12 and 18 months from now?
Honestly. I am not sure. For the first time, I have thrown “the plan” right out the window. For a person whose job it is to plan! – this is unbelievably uncomfortable, but some amazing things are happening beyond the comfort zone. So off we go!
