Starting your own business is a leap of faith, none of us knows how it will turn out. We just have visions and dreams of working for ourselves and making our chosen field a better place. Empowering our own lives and taking our skills to the next level by working for ourselves. What if I said that Empowerment within Entrepreneurship is not just that? What if I told you that this is your chance to change your life little by little, change the lives of those around you and even change the industry that you work in? Would you believe me? Have you ever considered it?

Empowerment is not all about YOU, it’s about changing things that you do not agree with. It’s about changing what has always been done for the BETTER and helping those around you. As you grow your business, you are going to come across many people from all walks of life, you are going to employ people; maybe on a part time basis, maybe more permanent. Here is where you need to not fall into the traps of doing things the “way they were always done” when you were employed.  Now is your chance to change things and teach those under you a new way of doing working so they can follow in your footsteps for the generation following them. This is how change happens!

Just like any mother teaching their children, or a lioness teaching her cubs, they are going to follow your lead, do as you do because that’s what they know. So just because you were treated badly, overlooked for that promotion, made to feel inferior; now is your time to shine and make that change, treat your team with respect, make them feel empowered and make them feel like they mean something. Teach them that you all work as a team, no matter if you achieve great things, or suffer a loss; you do it as a team, learn from it and move on. Here there is no place for I and Me; it is a place for Us and We. It is not acceptable to say “you get paid to do the job” guess what you are paid to do the job too even if it is your business someone pays you to do the job. How do you feel if that client says “well it’s what I pay you to do” Yes…. now think about how that feels when you do it to your “team”

No One said that just because you own the business you are not also a teacher, an influencer, a Mentor.  You are the leader, and it is your mission to make sure your team performs to your standards; through training, encouragement, empowerment and also trust. At the end of the day, you need your team, you need to trust them, you wouldn’t have hired a team if you didn’t. You couldn’t do what you do and you wouldn’t get the kudos that you get if you didn’t have your team working for you, covering your back, watching to make sure nothing slips through the cracks. Without your team you are an individual, an individual who could not get everything done to the high standard that you set, at the pace you set it. You may think you are superhuman and can do it all, but guess what YOU CAN’T!!!

So remember Entrepreneurs, empower your team, empower yourself, empower your children and teach the next generation better practices than you grew up with because the only way things will change is if someone makes the change and starts the ball rolling. WHY SHOULDN’T THAT BE YOU? Make the world and your industry a better place for years to come and truly leave your own legacy on those around you.

Empower your children! I couldn’t agree more. The landscape of employment is changing. In my opinion entrepreneurship is a subject we should teach in schools. It’s not longer a question of ‘who can I work for’ – it’s more ‘what can I do’. The future is an age of artisans, only the village market is global and being creative is now a ‘proper job’.

Think this is quite true and wise about the power of empowerment! Sometimes in the
midst of the fray, it can be forgotten.

Children should be taught about empowerment. Confidence. Leadership.
